Blogging Hiatus

Gentle Reader,

Some five years into the life of Afrika T, I now find myself unable to keep up with contributions at a level that I and you have come to expect from this blog. Partly this is because of other activities in responsible tourism (see example here, and another here), partly from other projects in sustainability (see examples here and here), and partly for reasons that are more personal.

I am certainly still active online and in responsible travel, so feel free to comment on existing posts here, to follow me on Twitter, and to note what I've been reading online via Delicious. I also hope to return to Afrika T, so am not bringing the blog to a halt, just declaring a hiatus of indefinite duration...

Thank you for your support over the years, and, if you're a newcomer to the site, may it still prove valuable.

Kind regards

Kurt

A Country Imagined - DVDs available now

The (SAFTA Award-winning) documentary series on art and landscape in South Africa, A Country Imagined, is now available on DVD. Woohoo! Seems to only be available via SABC directly, and their online store is "under construction". Not available via Kalahari.net or other online channels as far as I could determine.

Price: R 300 + shipping (R100 in South Africa, R150 international). Mine came via courier from Johannesburg, I don't know if they use airmail or what for international shipping. Arrives with 5 DVDs in one box:

How to order:

e-mail content@sabc.co.za and request an order form, or download it here [.xlsx file 32k]. You'll need to provide payment at the time of order, either credit card details on the form or a bank transfer (send proof of payment with the order form). Mine arrived 2 days after ordering.

The content was rated 'A' for all audiences. I don't see a regional encoding on it, but that doesn't mean there isn't one - it would be 2. I assume the video is PAL encoded, so if you're in the USA, you might want to check your DVD player (computers should all be fine).

If you order, please provide feedback via comments to this post.

[Full disclosure: I don't get any compensation for sales of the DVD]

A wonderful series. I hope SA Tourism would request SA Embassies abroad to promote this DVD in their countries of accreditation to brand South Africa as an attractive tourist destination. Ellwyn Beck
